Relaunching the route under our own management secures rail freight transport on the Kiel-Gothenburg corridor and enables our customers to book the transcontinental transport from a single source. The intermodal train operates two round trips per week between Verona Interterminal and Kiel Schwedenkai or Gothenburg Majnabbe, with further connections within Sweden and to Norway.
“The train will run with 16 double-pocket wagons, giving us full flexibility to transport trailers, mega trailers, tankers and containers. Scandinavia and southern Europe have always maintained a lively exchange, and trade between Sweden and Italy plays a key role in this with more than 50 billion euros in imports and exports. With our Kiel-Gothenburg route, we have an optimally coordinated ferry service and experienced partners in the ports of Kiel and Gothenburg to handle the trains. We are delighted to be able to offer this product directly to our customers,” says Mikko Juelich, Trade Director Germany Stena Line.
“The demand for intermodal services is constantly growing, especially for steel and forestry products, which make up a large proportion of southbound traffic. With a flexible ferry timetable at our port locations, we create the best conditions for a reliable service. The fact that we combine the two most sustainable modes of transport, rail and ship, is also becoming increasingly important for our customers,” says Fredrik Johansson, Head of Intermodal & Shipping Logistics, Stena Line.
