Special arrangements for ‘in-flight’ movements end on 7th January and with effect from 00.01hrs (GMT) tomorrow, 8th January, all freight movements on services from Great Britain to Northern Ireland will require a Goods Movement Reference (GMR).
- Movements without a GMR, or with a GMR that does not validate, cannot be checked in after this time and it will be necessary to exit the port in order to create or resolve your GMR
- This applies to our Cairnryan (Loch Ryan Port) to Belfast, Heysham to Belfast and Birkenhead to Belfast crossings
- Crossings from Northern Ireland to Great Britain continue to only need GMRs for CTC Transit movements (for the digital Office of Transit function on entry to GB) or if Controlled Goods are being shipped
- GMRs are created through the UK Government’s Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS). For more information see our Customs Process Flows – Irish Sea https://www.stenalinefreight.com/brexit/customs-process-flows-irish-sea/, or guidance on how to register for GVMS, here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/register-for-the-goods-vehicle-movement-service
