For the past years we have been working on developing a way to make it easier for drivers to handle drop off/pick up shipments at our terminals. One step towards creating easier procedures and lessen the time spent for our drivers onsite is to have a smart check in system.
At Stena Line we are always looking to improve our services. By adding the option of registering the shipment details prior to the driver arriving at the terminal, making the process much more time efficient.
Two options for registration
Smart Gate provides the option to choose how to check in a shipment for picking up and/or dropping off. Pre-registering details of shipment content and license plates of the truck and trailer will shorten the time for the driver at the terminal and benefit the planning to make sure that all information is correct, and shipping will go smoothly.
When the driver arrives, Smart Gate scans the license plate and show the dedicated spot for further processing.
The option of registering all details at the terminal will remain in the Smart Gate kiosk at check-in.
Belfast is only the first location
We launched the first system on 14 February 2023 in Belfast, VT4. With freight drivers trying it out and getting instructions on how to use it we have had a successful first week.
The next launching sites are Dublin Port in April, Göteborg Majnabbe, Holyhead and Belfast VT1 & VT2 in during 2023. Our further plans are to expand the system across several of our terminals in Scandinavia, the Baltic area and central Europe.
