As one of northern Europe’s largest shipping companies, we see that we have an essential role to play in making our sector more sustainable. One part of that process is keeping a close eye on the development of the transport market in general and projects concerning green maritime shipping methods in particular.
Less than 1 % of Europe’s cars, trucks and buses drove on renewable fuels in 2021 and unfortunately, the maritime equivalent is even smaller, such a tiny fraction of electrical or other renewable fuel powered ships that it barely registers.
At the same time, drastic measures are encouraged by directives like GLOBAL GOALS, as shipping worldwide contributes to around 3 % of global CO₂ emissions. Equal to 1 billion tonnes of CO₂ per year, which is why our industry has a responsibility to do our part and keep moving towards a net-zero future.
