A proactive company
Bjorn Andersen, Norske Skog talks about our customs clearance process
Mid-2016 came with a lot of challenges for Norske Skog because of our financial situation. For many years, we at Saugbrugs have put a lot of effort into discovering improvement activities that increase productivity and/or save us direct costs. With approximately 7,000 outgoing trailers annually, a few hundred containers and several boat departures each week, we saw that there was potential to save both time and transaction costs.
Our transaction costs were too high, and the time each driver had to spend at the border crossing at Svinesund created delays and contributed to a higher transport rate than necessary.
Stena Line was quick to propose a solution where customs clearance took place while the trailer was on its way between us and Svinesund after loading. This allowed the driver to go directly to Swedish customs without having to go through the freight forwarder, which usually meant half an hour or more was saved at the border for each trailer.
This showed us that Stena Line is a proactive company that constantly challenges both itself and its partners to further fine-tune an already improved work process.
